Friday photo: dark chocolate and raspberry scone

The knobbly beast shown below is a dark chocolate and raspberry scone from the Little Bakery in South Queensferry.  I’ve enjoyed several of these treats over the past few months, and recently tried making them at home. Alas, mine were nowhere near as good as the Little Bakery’s. I don’t know what their secret is but their scones are sublime.

    1. That combination works well in these scones, and they really packed in the chocolate chunks, but I’m afraid I don’t have the recipe. I used a basic scone recipe and added dark chocolate and raspberries, but the scones didn’t turn out like the Little Bakery’s ones. I’m wondering if they use dried raspberries. I used frozen ones, hoping they’d hold their shape and not make the scone dough too damp, but it didn’t work. If I can get hold of some dried raspberries I might try again, and if it’s a success I’ll let you know how I did it.

    1. Very much so, Jo. The cafe does have a few downsides (they clean the tables very assiduously with a powerful smelling spray that almost obliterates my taste buds, the coffee cups only come in one size which is too small for the size of the scones, and it’s not the warmest of places) but the scones are too good to miss.
